2011 Colorado Soccer

CU wins its second consecutive Region V Championship.

CU Gold won the 2011 Region V tournament with convincing wins against Fort Lewis (2-0), Minnesota State (4-0), and Colorado State (1-0). With this title, CU has a number one seed going into the 2011 National Tournament which will be played from November 17-19 in Phoenix, AZ.

Men's Soccer Organizational Meeting
Tuesday, August 23 @ 5pm in the CU Rec Center (Conference Rooms 1 & 2)

Men's Championship Recap

University of Colorado seemed destined to win this title. At no point in the tournament did they win by less than 2 goals. As a matter of fact only Penn scored 2 goals on them. Tough to lose when you only give up 1 goal a game (or less than a goal per game as they allowed only 4 goals in 6 games). Even the championship game was not a letdown for them as they faced a scrappy and hungry Missouri team who entered the tournament as an at large. Not 100% sure on this, but maybe 99%, both goals scored against Colorado in the playoffs were by way of the penalty kick. Great offense and great defense are keys in winning championships. It was of no surprise that Colorado took the major awards.

GK - Karl Toot - University of Colorado

MVP - Connor Hutchinson - University of Colorado

Congratulations to the University of Colorado for winning the Men's National Championship.

CU Black Earns 2nd Place in 3rd Annual Northern Colorado Invitational

After hitting a mid-season slump, CU Black looked to get their season on track in Greeley, CO last weekend. The tournament opened with Black pitted against Johnson & Wales Saturday afternoon.
The buffs came out rolling and found the back of the net 3 times against J&W and ruled the mid-field with strong play from sophomore Joe Low and freshman Todd Kopf. After J&W the Buffs faced tournament hosts University of Northern Colorado under the lights.
The Buffs rallied together as a team from the first whistle They went down to 10 men with 15 minutes left, and a win seemed lost until sophomore Henry von Storch made an impact, with an assist off of a corner kick to Senior Justin Macauley and a goal from the penalty spot to seal the game. With the two victories the Buffs were assured a spot in the Semi-finals which saw them pitted against inter-squad rivals, CU White.
The talented White team held Black scoreless until overtime when freshman Jared Cruise scored off of a free kick from 45 yards out. The Buffs faced CSU “A” in the finals on Sunday night, and after a hard fought battle ultimately fell short in a 3-0 loss to the Rams. CU Black looks to continue their momentum in the coming weeks and ultimately into Nationals next month.

CU is 1st Annual Rocky Mountain Cup Champs

On September 11th, 2010 the University of Men’s Club Soccer teams participated in the 1st Annual Rocky Mountain Cup at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, CO. The competition pitted the Buffaloes against rivals Colorado State University for bragging rights in the state.

The CU women opened up the evening against the Rams women, but ultimately fell short in a hard fought battle, losing 2-1. Up next the Men’s Gold team took on CSU A under the lights. After a strong start the Buffs found the back of the net early with a well finished goal by forward Connor Hutchinson.

The Buffs began gaining momentum and were on the attack as they found yet another goal shortly before halftime when Captain Dan Campbell’s thunderous volley from 30 yards out ricocheted off the keeper and fell to senior Ben Stump, who coolly put the ball in the back of the net.

The second half brought more of the same pressure from the buffs as they outworked CSU all over the field. The pressure paid off one last time when Campbell’s through ball found Stump once again inside the box, who slotted home his second of the night.

After the final whistle the aggregate score of the men’s and women’s game put CU on top 4-2 against CSU. The Buffs look to build on this momentum as they head into the full stride of the 2010 season.

2009 PRE-SEASON FITNESS SUGGESTIONS:

Saturday, August 8th 2009

PRE-SEASON FITNESS SUGGESTIONS

Here are some pre-season suggestions to improve your fitness.

Anaerobic - without a ball
-10 yard sprint (repeat 10 times with 10 second rest between each sprint).
-20 yard sprint (repeat 5 times with 10 second rest between each sprint).
-100 yard sprint (repeat 5 times with a 20 second rest between each sprint).
-Start at the end line on the field.  Sprint to the 6 yd. line and back, to the 18 yd. line and back and to the midfield line and back (repeat 5 times with a 30 second rest between each sprint).
-The 120 Test -  sprint the entire length of the field (120 yds.) and jog back to the starting point ten times.
*You have 16 seconds to complete each sprint and 40 seconds to jog back to the starting point.
*After the 4th and 7th sprint you have 1 minute to jog back/rest before starting the next sprint.
*Do as many qualifying times as you can – note how many you complete in the time allotted, and then finish the remaining sprints
As you become more fit throughout the season, you will be able to complete all ten 120’s in 16 seconds each.

Anaerobic - with a ball
-50 yard speed dribble with the ball (repeat 5 times with a 10 second rest between each sprint).
-Figure 8’s
*Place two cones 15 yards apart.
*Speed dribble in a figure 8 pattern around the cones using the inside of your left foot for one turn, and then the inside of your right foot for the opposite turn; complete the pattern six times in 40 seconds or less.
    *Rest for 1 minute
*Repeat the pattern using the outside of your left and right for the respective turns; complete the pattern six times in 40 seconds or less
Quick touches around the markers will improve your technical speed.  Make sure to accelerate between the markers as if you were beating an opponent.

-Speed dribble with the ball to a 25 yard marker, leave the ball and run backwards to your starting point.  Sprint back out and retrieve your ball, using a speed dribble to get back to the starting point.  Repeat 3 times in 40 seconds or less.

Aerobic Conditioning
-The field is broken down into 6 segments.  Sprint the 1st segment, jog the rest of the field.  Add a sprinted segment each time around the field.  So, the 2nd time, sprint the first 2 segments, then jog the rest. The 3rd time, sprint the first 3 segments, then jog the rest, and so on. By the end of the run, you should be sprinting the entire perimeter of the field.

-Cooper Test – complete a 2 mile run in 14 minutes.
